Our commitment

Akaroa Dolphins is committed to being a sustainable business. We recognise our obligation to safeguard our natural environment and to ensure our activities have a nett positive impact.

We strive to give guests an authentic, educational, and luxurious experience, while protecting the environment and giving back to the community.

Conservation

We think beyond short-term gains and focus on long-term initiatives that enrich the environment and community for future generations.

In 2014, founders Hugh and Pip Waghorn helped establish the Akaroa Marine Reserve. Providing increased protections to our local wildlife, the establishment of a reserve has seen an increase in species returning to the area.

Who we support

Having lived in Akaroa for generations, we’re passionate about giving back to our community. From volunteering on monitoring projects to providing funding for projects including Akaroa School’s reforestation project and the construction of Akaroa Hospital, we aim to help.

Here are a few of the ongoing programs we’re most proud of:

  • Sponsors of annual SeaWeek conservation activities since 2004
  • Participating in ocean debris clean-ups since 2004
  • Corporate members of Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust since 2009
  • Sponsors of the Tui Project since 2009

Tiaki

Tiaki promise

In New Zealand, we welcome manuhiri (guests) in the spirit of manaakitanga (respect, kindness and hospitality). Whether you are an international traveller or call NZ home, we encourage you to follow the Tiaki Promise and act as a guardian to protect and preserve our home.

While travelling in New Zealand, I will:

  • Care for land, sea and nature, treading lightly and leaving no trace.
  • Travel safely, showing care and consideration for all.
  • Respect culture, travelling with an open heart and mind.
