Akaroa is 75 kilometres from Christchurch City in the South Island of New Zealand. From Christchurch, follow State Highway 75 to Akaroa. The journey to Akaroa is a delightful trip through changing landscapes with many natural and cultural features. On arrival, you will notice Akaroa Village has a certain French flair with French street names, restaurants and colourful characters reflecting the early French settlement.

Note: You can park for free at the Gaiety Hall, Rue Jolie, Akaroa for up to 8 hours. It is a 2-minute walk from our ticketing office. Please allow plenty of time to find a carpark in case the Gaiety Hall is full and you need to find street parking instead.

Akaroa is a tender port for cruise ships anchored in the harbour. Tenders bring passengers to the main wharf. The small town can be easily walked and explored over a few hours.
